Welcome to the Women’s Banner Group.
The Women’s Banner Group aims to support and celebrate all women in their roles within trade unions, politics and communities, with particular emphasis on recognition for historically important women of the Durham Coalfield who history has forgotten.
We will use community engagement, education, our history, creativity and any other tools at our disposal to promote equality, fairness, recognition and camaraderie.
We will strive to provide opportunities for women to connect and support each other and promote events that contribute to the personal development of our members.
Politics is a very important matter within our society and the decisions made by Governments impact women immensely. We are not affiliated to a political party, however we will lobby Councils, MPs and the Government in the interests of women locally, nationally and internationally.
We will never promote, tolerate or accept any forms of intolerance, aggression or hate speech.
in 2019 we were funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund to create a new silk banner, This banner was unveiled on International Women’s Day 2020 at Spennymoor Settlement.
